Prayer for Breakthrough

A simple, scriptural guide to praying for breakthrough in your life, family, and calling.

What is a breakthrough prayer?

A breakthrough prayer is persistent, faith-filled prayer that asks God to break through obstacles — spiritual, emotional, financial, or relational — that stand between you and His promises. It is rooted in Scripture: "The God of the breakthrough has broken through my enemies before me" (2 Samuel 5:20).

A biblical pattern

  1. Worship first. Begin by acknowledging who God is (Psalm 100:4).
  2. Confess and repent. Clear the path so nothing hinders your prayer (1 John 1:9).
  3. Stand on a promise. Find a Scripture that speaks to your situation and pray it back to God.
  4. Persist. Jesus taught us to keep asking, seeking, and knocking (Luke 18:1–8).
  5. Give thanks in advance. Thank Him for the breakthrough before you see it (Philippians 4:6–7).

A prayer you can pray today

Father, You are the God of the breakthrough. I bring every wall, delay, and stronghold before You. Break through every barrier in Jesus' name. Strengthen my faith to keep praying until I see Your hand move. Thank You that nothing is impossible for You. Amen.
